Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) could help British businesses save billions

British businesses of all sizes and scopes could save billions on their energy bills through implementing the most cost-effective energy efficiency opportunities identified through the new Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS), the Carbon Trust has recently revealed in a statement.

The new ESOS regulations will require more than 7,000 large enterprises in the UK to undertake an energy audit at sites that make the majority of the total energy use of the business, with the process being repeated every four years.

The government estimates that the net benefit of the policy to the UK will be around £1.9 billion between 2015 and 2030 but the Carbon Trust’s own analysis reveals that the benefits for businesses are actually far greater than estimates suggest, with the actual savings on energy bills being some two or three times higher.

In fact, the research points out that large businesses can cost-effectively save around 15 per cent from energy bills through efficiency measures, with an average internal rate of return of 48 per cent and payback within three years. In many cases savings can be even higher and it is not uncommon to see reductions of as much as 25 per cent.

These savings can be achieved through readily available and well-established technologies in areas such as lighting and heating, provided that the technology is properly specified and sized, and that the installer is appropriately skilled.

ESOS regulations are likely to apply to around 7,300 enterprises, occupying up to 200,000 buildings, including up to 10,000 industrial plants, and accounting for around 35% of the UK’s total energy consumption.

HeatingSave and Tensor plc have been successfully selected as an Accredited Supplier to the Carbon Trust back in February 2012.

The Accredited Supplier status was awarded in recognition of HeatingSave’s track record in supplying and installing high quality energy efficient solutions for its customers. Within the application, backed by a series of successful testimonials and case studies, Tensor featured its HeatingSave product – a revolutionary Energy Management System that reduces the energy consumption of businesses and homes by typically 20 to 30%+.

HeatingSave is also approved to work and save fuel within the Energy Technology List, which is managed by the Carbon Trust on behalf of the Government. It is also approved by the Department of Energy & Climate Change and the Energy Savings Trust and was specified by the Building Research Establishment for the energy efficient homes retro-fit program, called The Greenhouse Project.

Last, but certainly not least, it’s important to mention that HeatingSave is a component part of the Government’s Green Deal program.
