ACE blames Government for preventing energy efficiency in the UK

The Secretary of State for Communities & Local Government, Eric Pickles, is accused of single-handedly undoing the UK’s energy policy and preventing the country from becoming the most energy-efficient one in Europe.

According to a recent news report, the allegations were made by Andrew Warren, director of the Association for the Conservation of Energy (ACE), when speaking to delegates at Sustainability Live in London.

Mr. Warren argued that the Secretary of State for Communities & Local Government Pickles’ decision last year to scrap the ‘consequential improvement’ regulation proposal goes against the wishes of around 82% of the UK building industry.

Under the terms of the aforementioned regulation proposal, businesses and households would be required to ensure their properties meet minimum energy efficiency standards when carrying out building improvement work.

According to the director of the Association for the Conservation of Energy (ACE), this regulation would provide £11bn savings to the economy and save 130 million tonnes of carbon dioxide.
