Consumer group slams UK energy market in damning report

The UK’s energy market is “broken” and should go under a full competition inquiry as a huge number of consumers complain about the level of service provided by the “Big Six” energy suppliers, a new damning report by consumer group Which? has recently revealed.

As a media source suggests, npower, EDF, British Gas, E.on, SSE and Scottish Power, the UK’s biggest suppliers, received more than 5.5 million complaints last year, with the first in the list topping the charts with 1.4 million complaints.

The consumer group’s report states that complaints ranged from issues with bills and metering to customer service and ease of switching to competitor firms. It also strongly asked for an investigation into how competition could be increased to deliver trust, transparency and fair prices.

This report by Which? adds to the ever growing pile of proof that simply relying on energy suppliers in order to reduce energy bills is never a good idea, and that active steps should be taken by each individual in order to optimize their energy consumption.
