Four major energy suppliers in hot water over pocketing ‘green tax’ rebate

Four of the “Big Six” UK energy suppliers, namely npower, Scottish Power, EDF Energy and E.on, stand accused of failing to pass on the £50 ‘green tax’ rebate to at least a part of their customers, a brand new media report has revealed.

After announcing a bout of price hikes last autumn, all of the major suppliers agreed to reduce their bills after the Government agreed to shift the some of the “green” levies away from consumer prices and into general taxation.

Nevertheless, the aforementioned four companies also announced that they plan to pass on the full amount just to their customers on variable tariffs, with customer on fixed-price tariffs being set to receive just a £12-a-year rebate in the autumn from changes to the Warm Home scheme.

Ann Robinson, director of consumer policy at uSwitch.com, said: “Suppliers could have made this whole process simpler by cutting prices universally for variable and fixed-price customers. Instead, with the big six cutting prices in different ways, what should have been a simple good news message for consumers has got bogged down in detail and caveats.”

This proves once more that, sometimes, searching for the best available tariff is not necessarily the best money-saving solution available out there. In fact, installing a system that would enable you to achieve solid savings in terms of energy expenditure by optimizing the way in which your heating system is being run is a much better idea, and this is specifically where HeatingSave can put its extensive experience in the field to very good use.

Building Energy Management Systems are capable of delivering extensive monitoring and control options, compared to basic controls. They typically employ data from a variety of sources (boiler flow and return sensors, internal and external temperature sensors, occupancy sensors, humidity sensors, etc.), and enable the perfect optimization of a building’s boiler-based central heating system.
