People in fuel poverty can access up to £2,500 to help improve energy efficiency

People affected by fuel poverty can now access up to £2,500 to help improve energy efficiency as part of a scheme called ‘Better Housing, Better Health’, a recent news report has been able to reveal.

The scheme has been launched by the National Energy Foundation charity, working in partnership with eleven local authorities across Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire and with funding from the British Gas Energy Trust.

Although generally considered affluent counties, the National Energy Foundation says 7.9% of households in Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire are fuel poor.

The project will offer help to those homes where someone suffers from a respiratory or cardiovascular illness, allowing them to access up to £2,500 to help with improvements like draught proofing, insulation, replacing doors and windows.

Project Manager, Alexandra Steeland, commented: “With winter upon us, this is the time of year when anyone living in a cold or damp home with a cardiovascular disease or a respiratory illness is most affected by the weather.”

HeatingSave building energy management cuts energy bills, energy use

Efficient and effective Building Energy Management Systems are capable of delivering extensive monitoring and control options, compared to basic controls. They typically employ data from a variety of sources (boiler flow and return sensors, internal and external temperature sensors, occupancy sensors, humidity sensors, etc.), and enable the perfect optimization of a building’s boiler-based central heating system.

The end result is that users still get a very good level of comfort, while in the same time saving energy and money in the process. In this way, they would be able to slash their energy use and also their bills, potentially climbing out of fuel poverty.
