Cuadrilla seeks planning permission to start fracking at Lancashire site
A drilling company specialising in shale gas fracking has submitted plans to start hydraulic fracture procedures at a Lancashire site.
Cuadrilla Resources is seeking permission from Lancashire County Council for drilling, fracking and testing the flow of gas from up to four wells at Preston New Road.
A detailed Environmental Statement (ES), resulting from the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) produced by consultants at Arup has been submitted with the planning application. Both the ES and the application will be available to the public once validated by the council, which is expected to be within the next two weeks.
Following validation the Lancashire County Council will launch a formal consultation process in order to allow the public to comment. The company anticipates that the application to LCC will be decided within a 16 week determination period.
Cuadrilla will submit a separate planning application for its second proposed shale gas exploration site at Roseacre Wood shortly. This second application and its accompanying ES will also be made available to the public once validated by LCC.
Unfortunately, while most people hope that extensive shale gas exploration and exploitation will actually bring down energy prices, the truth of the matter is that this is not really the case. In fact, even the energy suppliers’ official representatives acknowledged the fact that bills won’t go down, even if shale gas is added to the energy mix.
For this reason, the best solution for saving energy and money is the implementation of a system that would enable a higher level of energy optimization across the users’ households, and this is exactly where the HeatingSave building energy management system could help, given the fact that it allows home owners to cut energy bills by up to an impressive 30%+.
The system is built around the idea of optimizing the energy consumption levels within any area with the help of an advanced heat-loss algorithm that creates a specific profile for any building and based on that, switches heating on later if its warm and off earlier if its cold.
