Npower pushes up dual fuel bills by 10.4% from 1 December

Following closely in the footsteps of SSE and BritishGas, Npower, owned by Germany’s RWE, has just become the third supplier to raise gas and electricity prices over the past couple of weeks, while also announcing the most significant price hike to date – 10.4 percent.

In a release, Npower revealed that it will increase gas prices by 11.1% and electricity prices by 9.3% from 1 December, adding £137 to the average annual dual fuel bill for an estimated 3.1 million UK customers.

Similar to SSE and BritishGas officials, Npower bosses stated that “this is not a decision that we have taken lightly” and blamed the rises on the increased costs of its raw materials, government initiatives which are included in bills, and delivering energy to homes.

Paul Massara, the Npower chief executive, said: “I know that any increases to household bills are always unwelcome, and this is not a decision that we have taken lightly.

“We only aim to make around 5p in every pound (5%) in our retail business which we feel is a fair return for delivering reliable energy to consumers and for the risks that we bear.”
