UK should brace for more energy price rises following SSE’s announcement

The rest of the UK’s major energy suppliers are also likely to operate price rises following SSE’s announcement, consumer groups have predicted.

According to a media news report on the matter, the 8.2% increase in domestic dual fuel bills announced by SSE yesterday might lead to an “avalanche” of increases according to one consumer group, while another industry expert described the move as “the final nail in the coffin for affordable energy”.

Representatives of Citizens Advice commented on the matter, saying that: “This price rise will be a blow for stretched budgets. I hope other energy firms show an understanding of their customers’ financial situation by not raising their prices this winter.”

“Many households are facing a daily battle try to make their frozen incomes cover mounting energy, food and travel costs. Further increases will push people into poverty”.

Unfortunately, should the rest of the major energy suppliers follow in SSE’s footsteps, then shopping around for the best tarrif would have little to no effect on the actual bills.
